Maybe I'm overexaggerating but this game would be like a punch in my face. Imagine someone playing this when it was released and playing it again after forgetting almost everything plot wise right now. I said it somewhere long ago but I will say it again, this games main plot and what it suggested did age like fine wine. Some people should try and Google what 2003 had to offer in case of computing and everything related to it. I did finish it some years ago and I really, really liked it. At least they haven't done it yet with 4 and 5 IMO. No game after 3, no matter the scale of conflict, will give the same awe-inspiring feeling as 2 and the mystery in the blue sphere. But the twist is such an end-all twist and they wrote themselves into a corner for all subsequent games within the same universe. I actually didn't properly enjoy most of the star ocean games that came after 3.ĭon't get me wrong, I love SO3. Suffice to say, I was awed and fully bought into the fantastical sci-fic world of star ocean in my early teen.Īnd when the twist came, it just sorts of de-meaning lots of world-building in the 3 games that came before it. I bought all the famitsu issues that covered SO3, and in early screens, Sophia was also portrayed as a party member early game. Read the SO2 manga and watched the anime as it is released. I even got the super famicom SO1 to play and SO:BS on GBC. SO2 is still one of my favourite RPG during PS1 days. This plot twist isn't everyone's cup of tea, but to say it's the worst is reaching IMO.Īnd yes if it's not obvious I thought the plot twist was great, sue me Not to mention this plot twist already rung bells inside my head I mean wasn't the whole 4D beings a red flag? Isn't welch a red flag herself? This plot twist has been eluded to the entire time people are just angry that it wasn't a second story part 2.Īt least SO3 did something unique and took risks, at least it wanted to be its own entity and not a second story part 2 Cough blue sphere cough cough Was it controversial? Yes but at least they didn't pussy their way out and you have to respect them for not backing down and sticking with their guns. They had the courage to pull off this plot twist. Secondly love or hate it you have to give square enix and tri Ace there props. Keep in mind that this game came out in 2003, the fact they even came up with this idea in that time period is amazing.

I wholeheartedly think that this plot twist is overhated. Before I even played SO3 I've heard this game was notorious for having the worst plot twist in video game history.Īnd having made it to the end of the game myself months ago here's what I have to say.
